I've got an obsession with hands right now. I think it’s something many artists contemplate- these tools of ours. These agents of our brains and hearts.
But this fascination is not reserved only for those who make art with their hands, and hands do so much more than create. They hold, they comfort, they aide.
A warm hand grasps ours and guides our first steps. Picks us up when we fall.
Expertly places a bandage on a skinned knee.
A cool hand touches our feverish forehead and we feel soothed.
On the flip side, they also hurt. Fists balled in fury, wielders of weapons, hurlers of stones.
Powerful tools, these.
Able to both hurt and heal.
Destroy and create.
Build walls, and tear them down.
I’ll be exploring this theme for a while, (I’m gonna really get my hands dirty) and as we enter this new year, I’m focusing on the positive, elegant, empowering things I can do with my hands, including making more of these little talismans 🫴🏻
